Medicine Shortages

The NHPC Medicines Shortages List monitors shortages of Irish licensed medicines and provides information on re-supply dates together with information on any alternatives that may be available.

The NHPC receives details of medicinal product shortages from a variety of stakeholders including the HPRA, manufacturers, wholesale distributors, marketing authorisation holders, IPU members and the HSE.  Shortages are logged on the NHPC database.
The NHPC follows up with stakeholders regularly to update re-supply dates and include details of resolved shortages, as necessary.

Note:

The HPRA is responsible for co-ordinating the management of potential or actual shortages in order to reduce the impact of shortages on patients. The HPRA definition of a shortage is when the supply of a medicinal product is inadequate to meet the needs of the patient.
